Events like the New River Trail Challenge are a fantastic way to connect with nature along the second oldest river on planet earth. The triathlon also raises much needed funds for the Friends of New River to maintain many parts of the park. Without sponsorships from companies like Dominion Energy, much of the race fees from the New River Trail Challenge would go to covering costs of the race instead of supporting this beautiful, accessible outdoor space that attracts visitors from all over the world. Come visit and see for yourself!
Friends of the New River Trail received a generous gift-match offer of $4000 from an anonymous donor to build a Kids Track Trail along the New River Trail. We need to match this $4000 gift for a total of $8000 to enlist the help of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation to aid in the planning and execution of this wonderful resource for our youth.
The Kids Track Trail is a hiking path designed for children of all ages to learn about the nature and history of the area it traverses. These trails are typically about a mile long and easy to walk! Our long-term plan includes the development of multiple trails, but the first trail is intended to be in the area of the Fries trailhead.
Existing Kids Track Trails can be found at the Crystal Springs Recreation Area in Wythe County, throughout the Virginia State Parks system, and nationwide. Your donation of any amount will help us make this new Kids Track Trail a reality in our area. Please consider this worthwhile cause that will benefit children and parents and all who use our beloved trail.
There are TWO ways to donate below!
